Hyperemesis- ISO your best coping tips

After a week of feeling incredibly green, followed by three days of not being able to keep down even water, ended up last night in the ER w/ hyperemesis. Blaaah.
I'm so sick it makes me queasy to blink.

I've never been sick w/ pg before, so this is a whole new yucky world for me.
Those who've btdt- what tips can you share?
If you had HEG, when did it end?

I feel utterly useless and gross and I can't even drag myself to shower and spend most of my day napping on and off while toddler DD plays at the foot of my bed.

They gave me meds, which seem to help a bit w/ the nausea, but I haven't been able to stay awake on them yet...which makes me feel a bit unsafe taking care of DD.

Ugh. This sucks.

Zofran was my savior. It's not sedating like Phenergan, and for me it worked much better too. It can cause some serious constipation, though... I wasn't able to figure out how to combat it, but it was better than puking all day and wasting away to skin and bones!

I hope you can find some relief soon.

That's so weird! I had the exact opposite reaction. Zofran did nothing, and Phenergan worked like a charm! I started taking 50mg suppositories day before yesterday, (I too was throwing up water) and I'm feeling so. much. better. Like my old self is starting to come back. Twins really kick your butt don't they?? I was sick with DS, but it was NOTHING like this. I'm sorry you feel so bad mama- I hope you're able to find something that works for you. I think you just gotta try a whole heap-a-stuff and see what works best. I found that chewing on ice helped me keep water down, you might try that too! GL!

zofran - although I do hate it because then you deal with terrible constipation - and well it's hard figuring out which is worse sometimes. I was taking a lot of supplements to counteract the constipation.

First time I had it it ended at 26 weeks.
This pregnancy it stopped around 20 weeks

I had to go on it because I was puking bile a lot and it freaking hurt my throat.

Check out http://www.helpher.org/, there are more drugs and tips there

Hey, another twin mama here. I suffered from severe HG in 1995, when I lost one baby. I had lost 30 pounds in a month. I had HG again in 2003 with my younger son.
This time, I was sick, but not so sick. I never threw up, just severe nausea. I can stop myself from throwing up, I learned over the years. I took phenergan and zofran together at the same time. Zofran actually doesnt help w nausea, just vomiting. Zofran can actually cause nausea, too. If you take with phenergan or with bendadryl or with unisom, it actually works very well.
Never let your stomach get empty. Easier to say than do, huh? Never get dehydrated. Drink whatever you can drink. Soda. Tea.Coffee.Water.Snowcones.Anything.....just getting dehydrated makes the nausea worse and the meds will not work with dehydration. I am also a memeber of the website lilymonster recommended, and it is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice/commiseration, mamas.
Should've mentioned in my OP- I'm actually allergic to Zofran, that's why I started w/ Phenergan.

Nanette- yes, twins truly do kick my butt! It seems like, since we're going to have double the work and sleep deprivation after birth, maybe we should get a break now Sorry to hear you're super sick, too. Glad the med are making you feel better.

I took phenergan today before I even got out of bed (which was well into the day- sigh) and I felt a bit better, albeit incredibly tired. The not feeling up to getting out of bed is actually the hardest to live functionally with for me.

Helper.org has a list of other meds they are trying. I think there is also a machine or something that sends electrical impulses to your wrist my midwife told me about.

They also gave me reglan once - but that made me kooky - some people are fine on it.
