medical alert bracelet for food allergies?

I'm thinking of getting ds a medical alert bracelet. He has LOTS of food/other allergies and now that he is getting older and more independent (taking some classes at the rec center, going to various kids programs....) I think it would be good for him to have to let adults around him know.

He doesn't have life threatening allergies, but his reactions do cause issues that can last from a few days to a month or more so its important that we avoid triggers!

I'm also thinking that it would be helpful for travel, as an ID in case he gets lost (he did at the airport last month, and despite having my contact info on the inside flap of his back pack, and me discussing with him how to show it to an airport person if he got lost, he was joking around with the security guy instead of asking for help!)

Any ideas on where to get one? His wrist is TINY and I dont want anything with leather on it or that cant get wet (waterpark is another busy place we go a lot)
What info should I put on it? His allergies are wayyy to numerous to list, some are food and some are not. I guess my cell phone number, although I often forget to bring it! Do I put my name on it too? His full name? Any other info? What should be on the front vs. back of it?

I dont know where to start!

I just looked into medical ID bracelets for my DS who is 11 months, I am still awaiting his allergy tests, and then yes I will get one for him. I found a number of sites that have adjustable, velcro style bracelets for children. I also want to get one as an ID for DD.

How does it hold up in the water?

I kinda want something he can wear 24/7 (so I dont forget to put it on him/loose it somewhere), and we are in and out of the pool every day! Plus playing outside in the dirt....

Dd has a MedicAlert for her food allergies. They come in any sizes. They have a really inexpensive program for kids, too.

Like you, it was when she started to leave me that it really hit home. I was thinking about how I trust her teachers but what about in the event of an emergency? People use food, cookies, etc. to calm kids down. They wouldn't know what was wrong with her if she got sick. Now, she's at the point where she just asks before everything if it has peanuts (I think her last exposure really scared her...we try not to scare her about it and make it her entire life).

Another flipside is if she's, God Forbid, ever lost, the MedicAlert people have ALL our information - not just her allergy info. On the bracelet is printed Peanut Allergy but also their phone number for more details.

She wears the simple stainless one 24/7. Originally we bought one of the ones with the colorful enamel writing on it, but it was clearcoated and got scratched really quickly and I thought it looked terrible. The simple one looks great after months and months of use. She finally outgrew her first regular stainless one, but it never looked worn.

ETAA: I also finally settled on the MedicAlert b/c it LOOKS like a MedicAlert bracelet and not some fashionable item.
