Will my water break again before labor??

I am wondering if there is some misalignment with me as for 2 of my pregnancies my water breaks and labor doesn't start until after 24 hours. For my 1st it took 46 hours (he was born 2 hours later) and for my 2nd it took 60 hours (she was born 5 1/2 hours later). Both were homebirths and we just waited it out.

I am now wondering if during the last month of pregnancy not to have any poking or feeling to make sure the baby is still in the position it should be in because maybe that can trigger it? And I plan to go to the chiropractor during this pregnancy. So far both my pregnancy turns out fine, there is no meconium ever or any other things but it is still something that raises a small chance of risk (so I heard).

Any other advice or do you know why this happens

If you are early enough, increasing your vitamin C intake is thought to help prevent PROM (my midwives had me doing such, though I have no history of ROM before transition)

Of course, there's no way I can say oh yes, that will happen again... because sometimes it doesn't... and no way I can say oh, no... it wont happen three times! because, well, sometimes it does.

I suppose avoiding any internal exams towards the end may be prudent if you think that may have something to do with it but my personal belief is if your midwife is doing the exams and the waters not breaking when she does so, it probably doesnt.

No idea! Mine also ruptured and I ended up induced about 16 hours later (now I know a bit more and if that happens again would hope to wait a bit more and try some other things first)...

MaerynPearl do you know approximately how early you started the vit. C and how much?

They just said the sooner you start it the better. I started at 6 weeks when they told me about it and take 1,000mg daily... 2,000 if I am getting sick... and 3,000 if I am sick (but not to take 3,000 for long periods of time or often as that can be too much in addition to vit. c in prenatals and diet)

My water broke prior to labor starting as well, I've discussed with my midwife and I will be starting Vitamin C closer to the third trimester in order to strengthen my membranes. I'm hoping to keep it intact to allow a better position for baby.

We don't do internal exams, I was talking about external exams, belly mapping(i think it is called) during the last month.

I will try the vit. C. I guess from what I read it seems like water breaking and labor not starting in 24 hours is rare but it happened to me for both my pregnancies so now I want to try and see if I can help strenghten my waters. Oh, I am 4 months pregnant.

With my first, I have PROM as well. I was told it was rare - membranes rupturing before labor and yet it happened to me, to a friend due shortly before me and more recently to my husband's coworker's wife.

I have heard of taking vitamin C and E to strengthen membranes. I may consider supplementing later on down the road. I am having a homebirth this time around and will have the luxury of a provider willing to give my body time to work.

not sure who know every one can be different... for my first the did AROM when I was at 7 cm to get things going.. and oh boy did it ever we were pushing with in 20 minutes.. I wanted to try sooner but no one wants to listen to a first timer.... ( le sigh)

I had them break and labour start right away with my second.... 5 hours later i had a baby in my arms.

Do you know what position your previous babies were in when labor started? Or were they born in an a-typical position?

A-typical positioning of the babe can cause rupture of membranes- particularly occiput posterior positioning. That's what happened w/ my first- ruptured @ 38 weeks w/ no labor and born OP.

You said you were thinking of seeing a chiro- I would STRONGLY recommend that to help babe get into a good position in your pelvis. Also, visualizations of the babe in correct position during labor can help as well.

I agree w/ pps re: vit C and E.

ETA: I see that your babies were both born quite soon after labor started. I wonder if you were actually having productive contractions after your water broke before labor officially started? Just a thought....

I am not sure the names of the positions(or I just forgot them after my first) but mine was in the "correct position" or the normal/good position they should be in, they seem to stay in that position from the beginning of my third trimester.

There is one thing though, with my first he didn't engage not even after my due date and they say with first time pregnancies they engage early. The student midwife had assume he was not my first because he wasn't engage at such a late stage. It seem like only have my waterbroke is proberly when he engage. And I think it was the same for DD.

I am wondering if I am having silent labor too. As with DS when labor started it was 2-3minutes apart and I only had 20mins active labor before pushing. DD did the gradually thing but it speed up quick and only 15 mintues was really bad.

I am glad for one thing is that I have a midwife that is comfortable with my situation (as long as there is no meconium and fever, ectt... regular precautions) as I know if I went to the hospital I would have been induced, giving antibiodics, ect... and it would have been much harder. My kids also come out with a 9/10 apar so we haven't had a troubles because of PROM besides me constantly hoping no meconium drops out.

The midwife I had last pregnancy (which from what I understand from your other postings) worked with your midwife quite a bit had me doing this last pregnancy. This time, I will be taking half that. We couldn't get my water to break when it was time for babe to be born!
