Vax while pregnant gives immunity to baby?

I thought that I had read on here that vaxes in the mom didn't confer immunity to the baby but that having had the illness did. This article about pregnant women getting the flu shot says otherwise. Can someone clarify this for me?

I think that immunity is conferred for a few short months after birth (and while in utero) until the baby starts making their own antibodies.

What I find interesting is the blanket statement that flu shots are safe for all pregnant women. Do doctors not bother to read the manufacterers information that admit that there are NO adequate well controlled studies that have been done in pregnant women, and that vaccines should be given only when clearly needed.

this indictaes they are doing safety studies, but as of yet, non exsist for the trivalent 2010 season vaccine. I find it interesting that they will only be following people for 8-28 days post vaccination and at time of delievery. This assumes that this vaccine will have no long term consequences on the fetus. If they don't follow the mothers and babies for a while after birth, how can they possible say it is safe for a fetus??

Thanks for responding. I also can't believe that they issue these blanket statements and act like it is safe for all, but I guess I really shouldn't be surprised anymore.
