measles public health issue?

is it true that it has to be reported? My friend is not sure that is what her children have and she does not vaccinate (neither do we) but another friend told her that measles is a public health issue and she must report it.


I wanted to add, this question is for me, I perceived the comment to be a bit on the scare tactics side and I need to know the validity of her comment.

SHE doesn't have to report it. If she takes her child to the doctor and they confirm measles THEY have to report it.

Many cases of measles go unreported because parents don't feel the need for any medical intervention and treat accordingly at home.

The laws vary by state, but typically requirements apply to only licensed healthcare workers, school employees, daycare workers, etc...

I used to live in an area where measles was common. When my family and I contracted the measles, we chose not to report it. I thought it was only health care workers who were required to report it.

Since this is about an illness rather than a vaccine I'm moving to H&H.
