DH and I recently moved to a new state (NC) and so I am now looking for a provider for gyn services. We are not planning to TTC for a number of years but I do want to find a provider that is open to my decisions related to birth now so that I don't have to switch later.
I contacted a woman involved with a local homebirthing moms group and she gave me the name of a CPM in the area who does well woman care as well as the name of a local OB/GYN who is well respected. I have a few questions related to these options before I go about calling them and hope you all might offer some input!
1. NC does not allow direct entry midwives and does not recognize CPMs, only CNMs. What does this generally mean when it comes to using a illegal or unrecognized care provider like this? Is my care going to be "under the radar"? I really want to avoid cloak and daggers stuff just to get basic services, but I also really like the idea of already having a provider who does homebirths...
2. What generally are the differences between going to a midwifery practice vs. an ob/gyn practice when it comes to well woman care? For pregnancy and birth (assuming both are providers that support natural birth)?
