Tobacco as a moth repellant?

Anyone tried this? My uncle, who lives in Eastern Europe, said they put little bags of tobacco in with their woolens to repel moths. I'm thinking of trying it but wonder if anyone else has done this. We have holes in everything that's wool in our house and I'd love to find a good way to prevent them.

Well, I personally wouldn't want my woolens smelling like tobacco :blech

The best recommendations I have read for wool is to store them wrapped in 100% cotton and to have lavender or cedar sachets in with them.

The moths that eat the wool like the protein fibers, so they won't eat the cotton fibers.

Also, don't put wool away dirty, this attracts the moths.
