DD is 26 months. She sleeps in her twin bed, which is pushed up against the wall next to my queen sized bed. We live at my parents' so there's no other bedroom for her to go to. However, I'm finding the bedtime routine we implemented for weaning to be a bit long. Also, I would like, on special occasions to go out for a later dinner with my parents (both of whom take over bedtime for me if I'm ever home late)...but I don't know how DD would handle someone new doing bedtime with her, and the routine is a bit longish...

Here's what we do.
7:30-7:45 snack while playing quietly
7:55 brush teeth + say goodnight to granny and grandpa
8:00 go upstairs to read 3 little stories
8:10 sip of water, then lights out (Twilight Turtle on!)
8:10-8:30/8:40 DD rolls around over and over, insisting on holding my hand and eventually falls asleep. She sleeps in her bed, and I lie in mine, but right at the edge so she knows I'm there and can hold my hand.

That's when I creep out of the room...but if I'm remotely tired, sitting in a dark room for almost 30 minutes makes me drowsy and I fall asleep.

I'd love to be able to shorten this somehow and get DD to be ok with falling asleep without me there, but I don't want to scare her and I'm worried that messing with the routine I put in place 6 months ago will result in poor sleep.

Ideas?
