17mo....what is the "next step" to start on? And WHEN?

My almost 17mo just started getting REALLY good at the potty. He comes in on his own and stands in front of it to pee each time. He lets us know when he has to poop (unless it sneaks up on him when he has an upset tummy).

Right now he's naked all day so no one has to worry about pants or anything. AND it leaves it all up to him.

My question is: What is the next step and when do we move on? We've had a 75% catch rate currently. Should I wait for 100%? I put him in a diaper earlier because I wasn't sure he was done pooping (and we had TWO accidents yesterday) and noticed that he just went ahead and peed without going near the potty...so I'm hesitant to buy underwear.

Thoughts?

If you are waiting for 100% than unfortunately you will be very dissapointed. My older kids still have misses every once in a while when they become distracted. (even my 8 yr old).
I would say that it sounds like your ds is ready, you just need to go for it. Put plenty of clothes in the diaper bag when out and about and a little spray bottle of bac out and some dry cloth wipes, a little potty, and you are all set. I also threw in a cloth pull up or 2 in case we had a rough day and I was done I could put it on her (only had 2 do that 1x cuz we ran out of clothes).
When winter approaches long long sleeve t-shirts and baby legs when at home will help him to continue the independance without him being naked.
Good luck, don't stress, and follow his lead

Would you just jump into it or wait for this trend to continue a week or so? He recently had a regression (was going 50/50 and then stopped and we went full diapers for 2 weeks) so I'm hesitant.

And what's the difference between cloth dipes, cloth training pants, and just plain ol' underwear?

The training pants I've seen for boys look like normal underwear, the difference is that they're made with more material/padding on the front as to absorb a bit, but obviously not as much as a regular cloth diaper...
