Which of these names do you most like?

We are toying with not doing a middle name because we are hyphenating our last names and mine is a double last name already...it all just seems a little long...anyone have any takes on that?

Thanks!

i would hate to pass up an opportunity to personalize and beautify a name by going sans middle name, so my choices would be cedar henry (for sure--love 'em both) and nyah mae. not sure i like the look of the 2 A's together in the other girl name.
well Im biased towards using Mae of course... lol... I like the Nyah

and Cedar John makes me think of some old hobo dude... but Cedar Henry doesnt.

Not that middle names really matter THAT much by how they sound/make you think compared to what they mean to the family... I mean how many peoples middle names do you know?

Cedar Henry is very nice.

Nyah just looks odd. Is it Ny-ah? or does it rhyme with the ending of "lasagna"?

And Aayla...no. Why confuse a perfectly comprehensible name like Ayla by tossing in that extra "a"? This dooms her to a lifetime of spelling out a name that should be easy.

Ok, so the extra a on ayla is because it keeps getting pronounced isla whenever we show someone on paper. We have a friend named isla and don't want this confusion...but perhaps the extra a is weird.

nyah is pronounced nye-ah. perhaps someone could suggest a different spelling?

really I am struggling with the middle name or no middle name idea because of our super long last name. I'm also totally open to girls middle names that go with either of these two girl names...we're stumped.

cedar henry is definitely my favourite too...but with dp having john as a family name, he's obviously leaning that way.

thanks for the input...naming a child is hard work!

Ok, for Nyah, how about Naia (like Maia)? Also, it looks more classic that way.

I've never even heard of Isla. How do you say it? Like the first part of Island? Unless this name is super popular and I'm living under a rock - and I don't think I am - this is not going to be a problem. Every one of the gazillions of people who've read Clan of the Cave Bear will know exactly how to pronounce Ayla and it will be obvious to everyone else.

Cedar Henry sounds sorta trendy, sorta classic. I think it's cute. I'm partial to the Henry because my great grandpa's name was Henry and a cousin of mine named their very cute roly poly son Henry.
Nyah is SOOOO cute! This is the kind of name I go for. I could think of a ton of different spellings for it since one of the names I'm almost set on (if baby is a girl) has a similar sound at the beginning, but you had asked for a simpler spelling and I'm afraid I would only make it 10 times more complex (I'm a huge fan of extra letters thrown in "just because" ). I had to look up the meaning and it says it's of Swahili origin, no wonder I like it, I LOVE Swahili names! The meaning of Nyah says "purpose", which is cool also (I love finding name meanings!) I voted for Nyah Mae because if the first name causes confusion for anyone (it didn't for me but might for some), "Mae" is a nice, simple follow up name (and also pretty and they flow nice together.) And it's tough to vote on last names as middle names since I don't know them, lol!
Have fun choosing baby's name!

The only thing that makes me unsure about Nyah is it makes me think of cartoon mocking--like "Nyah nyah!"

I like Aayla, but I'm not wild about the spelling.

Cedar Henry is neat.

Love, love, love Cedar Henry- Henry was on our boys' names' list as well.

I like Nyah, just not the spelling...maybe Naia like a pp suggested?

When I hear Aayla, I think Jedi....but maybe I'm the only Star Wars nerd around???

I love Cedar Henry and Nyah Mae. They're both short enough names that I don't think it would be too much to pair them with long last names. Cedar John is nice because of the family significance but it makes me think of some outdoor school counselor or a guy who's been living out in the woods forever. "Oh, people just call me Cedar John" kind of thing. For soem reason I don't get that with Cedar Henry.

fwiw, I didn't have any second thoughts as to how to pronounce Nyah or Ayla. I think they're both pretty. And if the worse thing that happens is DD has to ocassionally say "actually it's pronounced . . ." then that's not too terrible. My name's Casey (which I thin kis pretty straightforward) and I get called Cassie ocassionally so I don't think there's any way to avoid your kid's name never getting mispronounced.

I would prefer Naya or Naia or Naiya to Nyah.

I like Nyah and think it's the most intuitive of the spellings suggested so far. Nyah mae is cute, imo.

I really like Cedar Henry, but don't care for any of the girls names.. they are *bad* or anything, just not my style

I have no input on the middle/last name.. I think it would depend on the names and how they flow together to make a judgment about that.

My only input here is that Cedar John sounds like, well, an outhouse. As in "I sure do prefer the Cedar john to the Pine one."

Sorry.

I love the name Cedar Henry though.

That's great! I'll have to tell dp that. I'm all for the Cedar Henry (my top choice without question) but trying to honour dp as well.
He might change his mind with this comment though thanks!!!
