Are there an hospitals (within a 50 mile radius) that do not have a newborn well nursery? That automatically room the baby in full time?

I am not sure if they still have a newborn nursery or not, but I've delivered two of my kids at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philly and had a great experience with this - it was assumed that we would be rooming-in; we were never separated, everything was done in my room in terms of vitals on the baby, etc. Even after the one of my births that was a (medically-necessary but VERY unwanted) c-section, we roomed-in the whole time, right from the beginning; during the first 12 hours after the surgery when I had to remain in bed, the baby still stayed in my arms the whole time, and I was told to just buzz the nurse if I needed diapering supplies or anything else to be brought to us.

I also delivered at Pennsy and had no problems keeping ds with me. He had some (very minor) complications/elevated temp "funky smell" when he was first born (yep my midwife diagnosed him with a funny smell which might be an infection, I actually appreciated her willingness to rely on her "feelings" about it) so he needed (we consented to) extra heel sticks to check his white blood cell levels (which were elevated and slowly came down) they did take him out of the room for that. Dp usually went with him and watched through the window. If I could have walked, I would have been able to as well.

I had a really great experience at pennsy with the respect for what I wanted for me and for my baby. They totally didn't care that ds slept in bed with me, although he did have a plastic box in the room.

But I don't think there are *hospitals* without a nursery. There are birth centers, Bryn Mawr Birth Center and I think one in Delaware.

Jennersville Hospital does not have a nursery per se, you room-in with baby.
They have the only integrated OB/CNM practice in Chester Cty., and the lowes t C/S rate in the state of Pennsylvannia. Worth looking into.
