Postpartum bowel control and nursing - WARNING: bodily functions discussed

Hi mamas!
Just curious if nursing is like a laxative to anyone else? Every morning when I nurse DD, I have to break the latch a few minutes in and get to the bathroom quickly. (This only happens in the morning but then again, that's my "regular" time to go more than pee...)

At first, I thought maybe my body was still getting its strength/control back from giving birth, but I'm 7 months post partum now! Will it ever get better?!

Oh, and sorry if this is TMI but where else is a mama supposed to discuss this kind of thing?!

Early on, i began to wonder this same thing myself. I was convinced that nursing, or whatever was going on hormonally, was acting as a laxative. I felt very...unstable (lol!)...just before/during nursing. which of course, was all the time. It didn't last as long as 7 months though! Poor mamma.

I don't really know, but maybe it's related to the pressure on your tummy?

Unstable is a great way to put it - lol! It could be much worse, so I'm thankful it's not!

Yeah DS will be 8 mo tomorrow and I still get that sometimes when he nurses in the morning. Now, if he waits a little it is more just my own natural timing. It is not nearly as intense as when he was just born, holy cow, but now it is almost like just taking some fiber or probiotics to be regular. No issues with constipation since I began nursing

Well, if nipple stimulation can cause the uterus to contract I'm sure those feelings could make you feel like you have to go to the bathroom. TMI- I know if I'm having menstrual cramps I often feel like I "have to go"
