Hands in the Diaper. Constantly.

My 19 month old daughter cannot keep her hands out of her diaper.

Ever. Without regard to whether she is dry, wet, poopy. For about three weeks now. She gets some diaper-free time, and doesn't seem interested in herself during bath time. We haven't made any changes as far as diapers, wipes, or bath products.

She also lies about whether she has pooped/peed. And thinks it's funny to lie. Like if I ask her, "did you pee?" The answer is always "no." And sometimes she'll run up to me hitting her bottom saying die-doo, and it will be completely dry.

I can handle that. It's kinda funny to me. But how do I keep her hands out of her diaper? She doesn't have enough one-piece outfits to wear them all of the time, and no one-piece pjs. I'm not so worried about her getting her hands dirty as about her introducing bacteria into her diaper. She is very dexterous.

Any advice?

Two words: Gerber onesies. K mart also had a load of onesies on sale (end of season). We mostly use them on days she's at daycare, at the request of our dcp. There was one day....let's just say she managed to get poop on every part of her body and every piece of clothing she was wearing. And she didn't have any spare pants, socks, or shoes, : so when I picked up she was wearing nothing but a diaper and a long-sleeved t-shirt. :

So it works. The one thing I really can't figure is if she's in a onesie and closefitting leggings, how in the world does all that sand still get in??

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one. I guess we'll be going to Target this weekend.

I agree with the PP. The only solution I know of is onesies. Overalls work reasonably well too, but onesies work best.

I second the suggestion about the onesies.

I also wanted to respond to the above... I wouldn't think of it as lying at this age. DD potty trained at 23 months and during the process I'd ask her if she had to go, if she was dry, etc. She answered "No." every single time. I'm sure they're developmentally capable of understanding the concept of lying/telling the truth.
