Nighttime waking - curious what other ECers think

Thread Starter
I have two children. My first was not ECed but out of daytime diapers at 24mo. Second ECed from 4wks. I was amazed at how young my dd woke mostly just to pee and then would fall right back asleep. If I had not been ECing I would have just assumed she was waking to nurse - and if I didn't pee her she would nurse for much longer. I then started peeing my older son at night and he started nursing much less at night.
Is this just my two? (not much of a sample size for analysis)

Also - does anyone know if there is a why I love EC thread because I would love to start one if not. (one of the reasons why I did not ec my ds was because I thought ec was too difficult after reading posts here - now I know its just that there are lost of questions that arise and this is a great place to share tips)

I'd appreciate others thoughts! TIA

I've heard this same scenario from several other people. i would say it also applies to my little one. the only difference is that I almost never offer the potty in the middle of the night because he always flips out. It's frustrating because I KNOW that he is waking up because he has to pee. we're having sleep issues right now that i'm trying to solve, but this aspect i just don't know what to do.

I did not do EC with my first, though he was fully out of daytime dipes by 22m. And as an infant he really didn't really wake all that often to nurse. I always changed him if I noticed he was wet. By 18m he probably woke twice?? 11ish and 3ish.

I started EC with my second, when she was 2mo. She woke less than her brother did from the get-go (her third night she slept 6 hours straight! I woke in a panic that something was wrong with her). I can say for sure that she has to pee when she wakes. If its in the part of the night where I am lively, I potty her. If its in the wee hours of the AM, I don't usually manage, and she usually holds it until we get up anyway (but yeah, nurses pretty much straight for 90 minutes or so). She is almost always dry all night. Big bro, not so, even at close to 6yo he still wets in the night 2-3x per month.

So I don't know. Doesn't seem like a super clear correlation to me.

My daughter wakes once to pee but still nurses 3 times a night. She was waking 3 times to pee for awhile, and then started staying dry all night for a few weeks, until I hurt my neck and couldn't get her back to sleep as easily... so she started waking more fully and now usually has one wet diaper in the night, then I change her and she stays dry until the morning.

My son doesn't wake to pee anymore and holds it until the morning but still nurses a few times a night too.

But yeah - simply having to pee is definitely a big reason for night waking!
