Reading Comprehension/Readers?

DS1 is reading pretty well (comfortable with Level 2 books from the library). I'd like to work on his reading comprehension. I was thinking there must be readers out there, i.e. books that have short stories and then ask questions at the end. I searched the board but was overwhelmed! Any ideas for working on reading comprehension? Thanks.

I found the Sonlight reading lists to be excellent. You can see the books and lists on the website, and most of the books are available at the library. You can purchase the teacher's guide from Sonlight (which has comprehension questions for all the books) for a minimal price.

The I See Sam readers do. I really like these, so much, for that and other reasons. They go up to 4th grade level, and the free teaching manual for download on the site has placement tests in it, to find your starting point.

The first thing I did with my big girl was find out about where her reading comprehension was by using this:

Then I bought chapter books accordingly. And after I read a chapter, I ask a few questions about what happened. Often times while reading a chapter, I'll stop if I think I read a new word and ask her if she knows what it means. Then tell her. Builds vocab that way!

Headsprout.com has a program for reading comprehension. You can get the first 2 lessons free to see what you think of it.

I am using the Flash Forward Reading series from Barnes and Noble. I love it !!! I started with the grade 2 book, and I like it so much that I went back and bought the books for all the other grade levels as well. The grade 2 book contains interesting little stories with about three questions at the end.

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking of! I'm going to head to B&N and take a look!

Thanks all!
