What to do with shrunken wool sweater?

Yup, I shrunk a sweater. It's pathetic.

Not only that, it got shrunk the first time DH wore it. Let's just say there's not much natural fiber in this house, and I don't sort laundry very well. (Since I shrunk it, I switched to line drying almost 100% of the time, so that part's good).

I feel bad just throwing it away. Anything I can do with it? I already offered to a sheep farm, because I guess sometimes they cut the arms off of sweaters to use as leg warmers for their lambs in spring. But they didn't reply.

I could compost it.

I'm not that crafty but I could make something easy like family cloth.. but wool family cloth? Hmm, I'm not so sure.

Can you sew? What about something like this?

maybe cut and sew a hat and mittens for your dd, or a vest.. or give it to someone who sews with recycled wool.

I could give it a shot. I do have some sewing projects piled up, I can make it a creative effort and see if I can stretch my skill. Which is not, uh, impressive at the moment.

Cut off the sleeves and cut up the middle to turn it into a vest (add buttons).

Cut it a part to sew into a simple square purse.

Cut it a part to sew into a pillow.

I would just felt it the rest of the way (run it in the machine in hot soapy water until it's felted well) and sew something out of it like mittens or slippers. You can even use the wrist cuffs as reusable java jackets for espresso cups. Or as others have mentioned, a purse. Check on Etsy and see what other people are making with recycled wool, there are a TON of things that's good for, to the point where people actually buy sweaters from yard sales for the purpose of felting them

If you use cloth diapers: you could make wool felt covers. I'm sure there are a lot of instructions / cuts for those on the web. (You could start right here on MDC.)

Oops - I just saw your DD is already 5y, so beyond cloth diapers! Well, maybe it's an inspiration for someone else, then.

I made Christmas Stockings out of felted wool sweaters a couple of years ago.

make a child's poncho - great for in the carseat I hear ( I am going to make one myself).

Diaper covers were my first thought.

If I knew it was just going to sit around, I would probably send it to a WAHM.

Cut it across at the arm pits and use it as a soaker pad for night-time accidents.
