5yo needs friends his brother won't 'steal'

I'm looking for some kind of planned activity for my 5yo boy. I was not innitially worried about the social aspect of homeschooling, because we have many friends and neighbors and my 7yo makes friends everywhere we go... However, I just realized that this is not always beneficial to my 5yo because, as he puts it "when I see a friend that I'm going to get, kyle just runs off with them." He's not really the 'play date' type as he takes a while to warm up to people- but once he does, he really has a lot to say for that reason he really enjoyed preschool/prekindergarden and riding the bus. But I'd really like the kids to give unschooling a chance & have other moral issues with public school so I asked if there are any other things he missed about school and he said "no" We concluded that he should have his own activity where he can make/meet with friends regularly seperate from his older brother. I'm not sure where to look... Any ideas??

Well, are there any lessons or sports or groups your 5 year old would like to do?

I would also work to keep your 7yo out of the way when your 5yo is having a playdate or interacting with potential friends. Send him to a playdate someplace else, have him help you cook dinner, put on a movie for him. Something like that.

We are in a similar boat. We have invited a few other families to our house and it works well when there are a couple kids of various ages. There's enough friends to go round that way.
