Pre natal vitamins

I was just wondering what everyone thinks about prenatal vitamins. I have had really bad morning sickness this time and have missed a week or two here and there, and I feel like each time I take it my stomach gets upset, like making noises, nausia and even diahrea. My sister doesn't take any and thinks it's not that big of a deal. I try to eat lots of healthy foods though. I am 12 weeks 3 days and I worry I missed out on the most important time the last few weeks. I would be interested to know how everyone feels on the subject. Thanks!

When my prenatals made me nauseous I switched to taking just a tiny folic acid pill. Much easier on the stomach. Now I've gone back to the full horse-pill prenatal. Good luck!

I took 1/2 my prenatal (it was 2 pills a day - I took one) for up to about 17 weeks. Now I am still taking the 1/2 pill and just taking additional iron. Folic acid isn't something I worry about because I love oj and drink a ton, so the 400, plus what I eat and drink I felt I was fine.

I am going to add DHA pill in a few weeks because my stomach is still a little upset at 23 weeks. I also take a calcium/mag/vit D supplement.

Sure I think it's fine to go without a prenatal as long as you're eating really fresh local produce and animal products (if not veg) and probably needing to consume plenty of fresh green juice. Can't say I was feeling up to prenatals in the first tri either but you can only do your best.

I switched to taking my vits at night cause they made me quite ill too....here i thought i had M/S but it was just the prenatals...I know i don't always eat everything in a day that your suppose too so i rely on the prenatals to make up for what i'm missing--just good reassurance in my opinion

I took my prenatals very sporadically as well earlier in my pregnancy. I try eating well. I think trying to take them at night before bed is a good option. I'm just terrible about remembering to take any supplements!

Agree with other poster and will add that sometimes you just need to try other prenatals. I was taking the Whole Foods brand and it was making me super sick, I stopped taking them for a while and when my m/s stopped I tried taking them again... totally made me sick still. So I switched to Rainbow Light Prenatal One, and it's not making me sick at all.

I tried Rainbow Lite and hated them and then found New Chapter to be pretty easy to take. That said, I have been pretty sick for weeks about 7-10 (where I am now) and have gone down to just one little folic acid pill (like Virginia). I'll go back to the prenatals when I'm feeling better.

There is this brand of Target gummi vitamins that is really, really gentle on my stomach. I swear I could eat them like candy (because that's basically what they are). I'm out of them but would consider getting more just to be taking "something".

With my first DC I didn't take any prenatals but back then I had the time and focus to eat really, really well. I like the extra assurance of a vitamin for my current lifestyle.
