AFWife:

If you have had a recent yeast infection, the worst things you can eat are carbs, sweets and dairy. With the absolute worst being the sweets - including fruits, honey, and alcohol. If you have dairy, the best is live probiotic, sugar free kinds. Like plain live probiotic yogurt or live probiotic cottage cheese.

So, you might want to look into the candida diet and use it for a little while at least or you might just bring back the vag. yeast overgrowth. You probably already have yeast overgrowth in your body though. I had it for years and never realized it. I'm currently trying to keep on the candida diet. I don't like it but I know I have to because of my health and baby.

There are cookbooks for candida diet recipes. Basically though, the strictest candida diet is meat and low glycemic veggies. There's tons of lists out there to check out for guidelines if you look online.

Here's a quiz to help figure out your symptoms...
http://cassia.org/candida.htm

Whoever asked about antibiotics, those are terrible for causing candida/yeast issues. Keep interchanging it with the probiotics for sure. And you'd be best to get on the candida diet as well.

Coconut milk, coconut oil are good for candida as well as organic apple cider vinegar with the mother. Probiotics are obviously good for candida. S. billardii (spelling?) a type of probiotic, actually eats the candida. I'm taking "primal defense" and the S. billardi. I also take candex which is an enzyme that eats the walls of candida. Organic meat is best when dealing with candida if you can get it. Regular meats have antibiotics in them so that can mess things up.

So, I hope that helped some. Trust me, I'm sitting here craving all kinds of things but I know I just can't have them for now if I want to get better.

I found out if your kids had cradle cap, that's due to you passing candida/yeast to them as well as if they have thrush at birth.

If you have candida/yeast, it increases your chances of having group B strep as well.

I don't want to sound snarky...but you literally just eliminated my entire diet. I can't afford financially or nutritionally to go on any sort of elimination diet right now...especially one as restrictive as the Candida diet!

I've always had high yeast levels...I did the "spit test" in high school and it was fairly bad. DS did have light cradle cap, but I tested neg for strep B. *shrugs* I'll probably look into it after I give birth...but right now I have to eat what I can.

really? You are the first person I've ever heard actually crave a non-food.

What's that like? Is it, "wow that soap over there sure looks tasty!" while you're actually near it? Or is it more like, "I have to eat laundry soap, right now!" while you're watching tv? And what do you do instead, eat a steak? Drink some floradix?

How 'bout fresh coconut meat? I had a massive craving for it the other day.

AFWife, I am normally anti-snack-cake just because they're so disgustingly sweet and I'm spoiled by my own baking, but they have been a serious weakness for me during this pregnancy! Every time DH has to stop for gas I give him the fluttery eyelashes and say "You know, if you HAPPEN to see some Little Debbie cupcakes, couldn't hurt to buy them, just in case...."

When I was pregnant with my second, I wanted a Subway sandwich so badly that I actually started to cry and my MIL felt so bad for me that she went and got me one. I was incredibly embarrassed. It was a 40 minute round-trip and that's why I wasn't going to go but I couldn't stop thinking about it. Fortunately I think she forgot about that incident but when I think about it I want to do this:

haha Reminds me of my first pregnancy, for some reason I really wanted a meatball sub.. So much that I mentioned it to one of my co-workers, who called my husband (the joy of working in a place where your husband use to work) so when I got home I had a hot meatball sub waiting for me. It was great until I opened up the bag, got the first smell and had to run to the bathroom. Poor DH, he tries to be a sweet guy and it backfired.

My lastest is sushi. Doesn't help I live in the land of the sushi (Japan) and there are sushi places all over the place. I won't go without DH though because he knows more about that stuff than I do. Also, cheese and red meat. I think I might be anemic again, Im usually anemic but I can't take iron supplements without getting ill from them.. I told the doctor last time he suggested them that I don't think they work if they don't stay down.

I usually suggest this to people.

But, in myself, I also find I crave sweets and starches when I am either stressed, or when I need more calories but no particular other nutrients. So the second situation has happened a lot in pregnancy. I've eaten what I need, and taken the supplements I need. But I just get hungry again shortly after a meal sometimes and need more calories overall. I guess it happens since I eat such a low-carb diet to begin with. If I had worked more carbs into the meal, I probably wouldn't be craving them right after a meal.

I vote that you are wanting fat soluble vitamins A, D, and K. Pumpkin is high in A, but you need the fats in the milk, egg, and whipped cream to absorb it better. And the milk and egg and cream have D and K.

---

In general, I've been craving things like pudding, custard, etc. I am pretty sure it is the fats and fat-soluble vitamins. I really want things with a lot of egg yolks. Rich, orange, free-range egg yolks. Supermarket eggs aren't satisfying at all.

I also have been feeling healthier when I eat lots of sour cream. Probably same reason.

But here's the weird one: horseradish. What could a craving for horseradish mean?

What I've come up with is this: it supposedly reduces gassiness. You know how pregnant women generally are repulsed by gassy veggies because their system is slowed (to maximize nutrient absorption) and veggies are prone to ferment during the longer trip? Well, I am not being repulsed by those veggies like last time, but i am attracted to horseradish like crazy.
