how to help 3yo fall asleep on her own.

I am looking for suggestions on getting my 3 yo DD to fall asleep on her own. DH or I have always laid in bed with her until she fell asleep but with a newborn this is becoming increasing difficult/not practical. It would make life infinitely easier if we could just get her to go to bed and fall asleep on her own. Any suggestions for helping her do this?

This isn't for everyone, but we are not above bribing. I plan on starting next week after we get back from vacation. I think the way we are going to do it is to make a sticker chart, with the first present after she stays in her bed 1 night, the second present after she stays in her bed 2 nights in a row, the third present after she stays in her bed 3 nights in a row, etc. I am thinking we'll have about 7 presents total, so this might take a while. I'm going to order some Bitty Baby accessories as the prizes, and put a picture of each one at the end of the appropriate row on the sticker chart.
