Washer as a diaper pail

I've heard of people putting their dirty diapers directly in the washer instead of having a diaper pail. When it's time to wash they run the load, wash their other laundry afterward, and then start using the washer as a diaper pail again.

Does anybody do this?

I've experimented with this at my mother's house, and you know, I honestly think they get cleaner using a dry pail. I my minishower.

With five kids I have far too much other laundry to be doing to take up that space with diapers.

We have a dry bucket in the bathroom and one by our bed. I wash underwear with them as well and do a load every other day or so.

How is this any different than using a dry pail?

I haven't tried it, but couldn't for two reasons. reason one, the laundry is in the basement, and I'm not going down 1-2 flights of stairs and putting on shoes to do so every time we have a diaper change (have to go through the garage to get to the laundry). and when I do laundry it takes most of the day, and where would I put diapers while other laundry was going?

That's exactly what I was thinking. It might be doable for a first baby, but with four kids I need my washing machine too much to do that.

I do loads in between diapers, so this wouldn't work for me. BUT, if I had a diaper-dedicated washer, I think it would be an awesome idea!

That would be awesome! I'd add a diaper changing room, with spot to change baby, washer/dryer/lines just for the dipes, sink. Ahhh, the luxury.

No way.

For one, my front loader holds odors if I let things sit in there too long.

For another, I run 1-2 loads of laundry/day, not including diapers. And I would not run 1 day's worth of diapers as a "whole" load. We use more than enough water and electricity as it is!

Oh. I thought you meant filling the washer up with cold water and throwing the diapers in, using it as a wet pail and spinning them out and then washing them. That's what I was talking about and I felt like it set odors in more than anything else. If you aren't soaking them and you don't need the machine for anything else, then it seems to me like an okay thing to do.
