*hoping WuWei will chime in*
This is going to be long. My apologies for that.
In December '08, my husband had surgery to correct a deviated septum, remove his tonsils/adnoids/uvula, and basically "open up" his sinuses. That was definitely a mistake, but the past is the past....
So fastfoward to 2010. We now live in Austin, TX (moved from Florida) and he has copious amounts of very thick mucous in his sinuses all of the time. Constant sinus pressure and pain. Constantly blowing either "slugs" of snot or hard pieces of what looks like ground beef out of his nose. He's miserable.
He goes to see an ENT, who immediately recommends more surgery. No, thank you. Three months later (today) he sees another ENT. This doc is more patient, answers questions, and explains as follows:
Huz has a classic case of allergic fungal sinusitis. He has polups in his sinuses from the fungus, and it has breached his right eye cavity, which is why huz has so much pressure/pain in his right eye. It appears that during the last surgery the doc may have nicked out a portion of the bone that supports the right eye, which is probably where the fungus got in.
Recommended treatment: another surgery to remove polups and open areas of sinuses that are not completely blocked by growth of fungus/snot mixture (very medical terms, right?). When inflamation goes down after fungual removal, it is likely that his eye will sag, so the doc wants the opthamologist to repair that bone while Huz is under. This would be done with a piece of sinus bone rather than septum, since the septum has been messed with once, and possibly could be done through an incision through the lower eyelid.
Surgery would be followed by a course of prednisone, allergy meds, and some dangerous anti-fungal medicine that has like a 99% chance of causing permanent liver damage if you take it while taking anything containing any alcohol.
Known risks: Possibility of permanent damage to eyes/vision. Possibility of puncturing the bag of waters surrounding the brain. Risk of doing nothing: Doctor says if left untreated, fungus will eventually destroy eyes and eat through to brain as well.
Doc wants Huz to see an allergist and an opthamologist a.s.a.p. to see extent of damage to right eye at this point. I'm so distressed about all of this. About three months ago, Huz did a regimine of GSE capsules for a solid month and cut out sugar, but saw no improvement.
Help. And thanks if you read this far.
