So my sister and I were trying to figure out if my 5yo niece has some sort of problem absorbing some nutrient or is allergic to something or has some mystery illness or is just very unlucky.
She is my sisters oldest. My sister had severe preeclampsia but was able to make to 38 weeks before being induced. She was TINY! I forget exactly how small, but something like 5.4 lbs and 16 in or something like that... not unheard of for a pre-e baby. Also my sister and BIL aren't huge people, so maybe she's just tiny. She just stayed tiny. I think she was diagnosed as failure to thrive somewhere before her first year and her ped had my sister feeding her shakes to try and bulk her up, but it *never* worked. they just made her poop a lot and she is still tiny. FWIW, she was exclusively nursed to 6mos when solids were introduced. I believe my sister began supplementing formula around 9-ish months due to low supply upon return to work and she was weaned to formula before she was a year. I don't believe she continued to recieve formula much longer than 12 mos. I do recall some food sensitivities when she was nursing, but I'll have to check on what it was.
Eventually, she hopped onto the charts when she was, like, four, but barely. She is still just the tiniest thing. So, so thin and when you hold her hand, it's like holding onto a bird's wing, if you know what I mean. Maybe she's just tiny, and there is no answer, but there are other things that make me wonder if it's something.
From day one, she has had massively sensitive skin, like, my sister could only use water on a washcloth for wipes, and could only use Huggies brand sposies or else she would break out. She can only use very specific lotions and sunscreens or else she breaks out really badly. She has had eczema for as long as I can remember, and just kind of crappy skin all around.
She seems to get sick fairly easily. She is allergic to moxacillin (i'm pretty sure that's the one). She has seasonal allergies. She's had bladder infections, ear infections, a yeast infection, impetigo, and strep... probably more infections that I can't remember.
She also just has awful, awful teeth. Cavities every time she goes to the dentist, she's had her teeth drilled multiple times. My sister just today had her at the dentist with abscesses on her teeth that they just decided to pull.
There is probably more that i'm just not remembering.
Any ideas? i'm trying to help my sister find some sort of direction to try and look for some answers, if there are any to find.
Thanks in advance for any help. If you need more info, i'll what I can find out.
