Symptoms of an allergy in bf newborn?

Mamas - my 6 week old is all of a sudden fussy for hours at a time, sometimes fusses while nursing, pooping greenish poopies sometimes with some amounts of red (blood?!) in it. Does this sound like she is allergic to something I'm eating? I'm eliminating a lot starting today but sad for her pain. What symptoms did your babe have while allergic to something you were eating? Could this be something else? Thanks in advance!

She also has a mild rash on her face, chest, and neck.

Any blood in the stool at all is a serious thing. My DS had bloody in his stool late in his first week. He also had blackish green stools, a runny nose, goopy eyes, and a diaper rash. He was about six or seven days old when we first noticed the problem developing. The bloody stool sent me straight to the phone, the pediatrician said remove dairy right away. We did-- the bloody stool and funny-colored stools stopped within two days, but the runny nose and goopy eyes persisted, as did the diaper rash. Our next step was eliminating soy, and that solved the problem. Although it took about two weeks before the symptoms were totally resolved.

With suspected blood in the stool, I think I would immediately eliminate dairy. I do think I'd also look for a health professional's advice, just on the odd chance that I might be missing something more serious.

Wow so glad we never had that scary of an ordeal with dairy allergy(actually lactose intolerance most likely). Her ped at 2 weeks was shown a rash she was getting with small cows milk based formula and said she was probably lactose intolerant. That is only official word I ever had. I just supplemented with soy from then on. I did try out whole cows milk when she turned 1 but anytime we got to 50/50 mixture of whole milk to soy formula she returned with symptoms so I switched to soy milk.

Definitely take things out of your diet.

I wasn't a big milk drinker but for purposes of keeping balanced diet I was drinking some when nursing and then my normal cheese consumption once or sometimes twice a day. When I noticed some colic in her 5-6 weeks I stopped cheese, milk and cut out broccoli and her fussiness went away. Don't know if it was that or her age but she does in fact have a lactose issue(as do I which is why I was not a milk drinker).

Blood is scary. If its red though I'd call, if it gets black and tarry go to urgent care if you can't get in peds office.
