Zofran questions

I'm back to being sick all the time and finally gave up and went back on Zofran. The dose is 4 mg and the directions say "take one tablet by mouth twice daily as needed". My question is-- can I just take one dose a day? I'm sleeping for one of those 12 hour chunks, and it seems silly to take meds to make me not nauseated while I sleep. But maybe it's something cumulative that builds up in your system so I need to take it every 12 hours? I've only been back for a day and am already feeling the side effects, and I'd like to diminish them as much as possible.

you can only take once per day if you need to. i'm sure that would decrease the headaches. i took it 2-3times per day at first and cut back towards the end of pregnancy in the third trimester when I was a little more stable. It still worked quite well and I could go back and forth as needed without any issues. I did find that the headaches increased when I took more obviously but it was either that or vomitting 24-7 and losing weight and being completely non-productive at work and dehydrating. So. . . . . . .2-3 pills per day it was.

Yup, you can take it once a day if thats all you need.
There are other anti-nausea meds that need to be cumulative, but Zofran is not one of them.

Oh good. I kind of miss pooping.

I took it only once a day - with dd's pregnancy I took it first thing in the morning and with this pregnancy I took it right before I went to bed at night. That seemed to work the best. Even on one 4mg dose per day, though, I was still ridiculously constipated. But I am very prone to constipation, so I'm kind of a worst-case scenario.

That's the nice thing about the statement "as needed" it means you can take it if you need it and not if you don't but if you do then you can take 1 every 12 hours

It was worded oddly though. I didn't know if "as needed" meant "stop taking every 12 hours when you stop feeling like you're going to puke" or "you can take it every 12 hours if you want."

I made up my own dosage. 1 8 mg pill in the morning, and then I split a pill in half for the afternoon

Then when I went off, I split the pills and then took them every other day.

For pooping - I took magnesium citrate supplements.

I was told I could just take it when the nausea got bad enough that I needed it. Some days I don't need it at all, other days I take it once (usually before dinner, so I can manage to eat enough) and some days I have to take it repeatedly throughout the day.
