Does This Sound Like Braxton Hicks??

Thread Starter
I was awakened with a start this early morning. I had a strange, nearly undescrible pain in my belly. Kind of like a pulled muscle, but not. And there was a sharpness associated with it too. Kind of like a gas pain, but different....this was more knifey. Anyway, it woke me out of a sleep and was quite literally painful as I attempted to roll to my other side. I had to pull myself into a full sitting position in order to switch sides. The pain subsided after a few seconds (which felt way longer, let me tell you) and happened again one more time before I decided just to get up and go to the bathroom.

Here we are an hour later, and Im still awake. I started searching the net, trying to figure out if these could possibly be braxton hicks?? Im a rookie to this game and have no idea if thats what they were. The sharpness of the pain is gone, and Im left with just a very dull ache, if anything noticeable at all.

Im confused....because when it happened, my stomach felt a bit tighter than it is currently, but it wasnt "ZOMG, rock hard" like the internets seem to describe braxton hicks to be. The sensation was pretty localized to my right lower abdomen, and didnt radiate downward to my toes like was described either. Since this has happened, baby has been pretty active in there, tumbling along. Coincidentally, she seems to be on the same side I felt the sensation on.

Any ideas??

Happens to me all of the time, though not always coinciding with a BH, it seems to be when I have been poked hard and it is almost like a bruise. I am sore from the poking and stretching, and now I am getting a bit sore andcrampy down low, usually happens early for me and continues to get more intense as I get closer to baby.

Sounds like Round Ligament Pain to me - Braxton Hicks are more annoying than painful, and they definitely aren't a sharp pain (for me), whereas RLP definitely is.

sounds like round ligament pain to me too. I had my worst pain yet just this morning as I was taking a walk. Felt wonderful beforehand & this pain just took my breath away -- definitely feels like a pulled muscle in the abdomen. It was just horrible timing. I slowed down and thought about turning around or sitting down someplace, but I forced myself on, pressing on the pain every now and then. I had to breathe through it too since it was trying to make me panicky, but I just reminded myself it's par for the course.

of course, as soon as I get home, the pain is gone. Just a lovely hour walk with a belly charleyhorse. How come people never tell us these things about pregnancy???

I was wondering if ligament pain was worse than Braxton hicks or contractions in general. 'Cause it sucked!

I agree with the others - RLP. RLP has caused me more grief! Braxton hicks are just tightness and discomfort, not painful and not sharp. You would be able to feel hardness on your tummy.
