Hip Carry

I have a OTSBH and a 23 lb 8 month old. Whenever I try the hip carry, he leans out front and it feels terribly unbalanced. As a result we're still doing the tummy to tummy which we've done since birth. I wish I could get the hip carry to work, though. Any suggestions?

Make sure the top rail of the sling is up under his armpits and pulled snug (not so tight that it is digging into his skin). It sounds like he just has too much slack to work with. Also, if he is just too wiggly, with the Maya wrap you have enough fabric to wrap the sling over his shoulder so just his head is sticking out. I'm not sure if you have enough room in the OTSBH.

You've already gotten good advice. Honsetly, I would sell the OTSBH and get someting unpadded. They are more versitile and easier to use with an older baby IMO. You can get Maya wraps for pretty good prices off ebay. Or try TaylorMadeTreasures for a beautiful, well constructed sling. There is also Reverand Jan who has great prices. I don't own one of her slings but I've seen pictures and she does awesome work. She even has sewing directions on her site. My favorite is my Zolo, though it is pricy.

I have a Maya, but I switched to the OTSBH when I started doing the Kangaroo carry since it was easier in the OTSBH (at least for me). I got it out, and that works much better. Thanks!
