The Atlantic has an interesting article on the first person diagnosed with autism by Kanner: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/...st-child/8227/

That is actually a pretty interesting article, thank you for sharing it.

Its cool to see that the first child diagnosed with Autism is a "functioning" adult with Autism. Has friends, goes out, and lives alone. Its just amazing to me, mostly because its what I keep telling people... Autistics can function and be productive members of society with independence. I think many don't give enough credit and certainly not enough support! Maybe others will read it and have more hope for their children instead of trying to "cure" them.

Great article.

It is interesting to me that Donald's unique issues were finally recognized due to his parents' not accepting the "whatever" diagnosis, their detailed observations, and their persistence.

That's what I loved about the article. Donald is a happy, successful adult. He had a job before he retired. He has friends and hobbies. He has family.

It's a very hopeful portrait.
