You should check out your local children's resale or consignment store. I own one and we get lots of these in all the time. Plus, with stores like that, you're recycling, paying way less, and get to shop a big variety of brands. Plus the inventory changes often, which keeps it interesting.

The Children's Place has bunches out for girls right now:
Scroll down for plain ones

Boys, not quite as many in long sleeve, just turtlenecks I think

Ive been struggling w this too. Once you hit 2T, you can find plenty, but its tough smaller than that. Even childrens place didnt go smaller than 12 mos w the solids at the 2 stores i hit. Definitely check consingment, i got several there. But mostly until now (12 mos), its been 6 solid tees that i picked up randomly at CVS in 3-packs.

I called the H&M half an hour from us and they do carry plain long sleeve shirts in 0-18 mos size, and they have some solids and some stripes. Next time I am up that direction I may stop in and see what they have

I just moved back up here (DH deploying) so I should figure out where the good resale shops are... me thinks a post in my tribal area would be good!

I also think I am going to have my mom help me convert some onesies into shirts... it shouldn't be too hard, right?
I don't like onesies past the really small stage (like newborn stage) since my DH won't do up the snaps if he has to chase the kids around to do it. Ive converted almost all our onesies into shirts, if you can find someone who has a serger its super simple. Just cut and serge around the edge, if you want a clean line and not a sergered line its just one more step, fold the serged edge over and sew a hem. Takes me maybe 2 minutes if I don't want to do the extra hem maybe 4 if I do and thats with taking care of two kids. Im sure if you know anyone who sews they would be happy to help or you might even be able to convince them to do it for you for cheap.

My mom says she is happy to help She doesn't have a serger but she said something about double folding the bottom and doing a zig zag switch? I dunno, I don't sew but she does so I will just go with it!!

My son wears onesies all the time with his CDs. You just stretch them. I do find they make it possible for him to wear the next size up earlier though.

Do CDs create problems with onesies as they age or something? Or is it just a preference?

Onesies fit just fine over our CDs but we use PFs and wool longies/shorties at home (and out sometimes) and onesies definitely do not work with that combo unless you leave them unsnapped and flapping around!

Target! Cherokee brand (Targets brand) has tons! I've loved them for all three of my kids. They're either $3.99 or $4.99 for the little sizes, $5.99 for the bigger ones.

Do they ever have just like... plain colors are Target though? There is a Target like... half a mile from my house so that is definitely an easy enough stop to make to check it out
