Zoloft Withdrawal and Breastfeeding

Hi. I'm new to this topic, but hope that someone here has some insight for me!

I have been on a dose of 50mg of Zoloft for a year and a half. My dd is 21 months old. Last week I quit cold turkey (by accident because my RX ran out and the mail order RX hasn't arrived yet). I'm feeling like crap: dizzy, tired, can hear my eyes moving in my head (yucky withdrawal symptoms). Anyway, my dd has been on and off vomiting for the last two days and is sleeping like a stone when she sleeps. She has no fever symptoms and is up and playing in between vomiting bouts. Is she in withdrawal, too? I know they say that Zoloft is almost undetectable in breastmilk, but I'm not sure I believe "them" (the medical establishment). Does anyone else have experience with Zoloft withdrawal and bfing? It's weird to say this, but I hope that she is just sick and not going through withdrawal. If she is, the amount of guilt I feel about pumping her full of this drug for most of her life is huge!!

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

I wish that I did but I atleast wanted to say something, since I hate it when I see how many people have viewed my post without saying anything . I'm glad you posted your qu. as I have been debating going in to see my midwife's about going on zoloft. It really makes me wonder if I do go on it if it wouldn't just be better to wean (and I EBF'd my first) but I think that you can still bottlefeed with love.

First of all; my kids have the same sickness right now!

I am currently nursing for the third time while taking Zoloft. I have gone off my meds before & never had any of my babes have a reaction.

Emys_Mama,
I can tell you that I went to a very good conference not that long ago and the keynote speech was on anti-dep, bfding issues

and my notes state that as you were told zoloft should not cause that and especially since your child is prob not exclusively bfed at her age, you have been cutting down naturally on how much of bmilk she gets over the last year as you introduced other foods

the odds are very high the puke fairy has come to your house, he is traveling everywhere this month

I do not know anyone with kids that has not been hit yet this month. clear fluids for her and she is prob sleeping hard cause throwing up is physically wearing on little ones, watch the number of wet diapers to see if she is getting dehydrated

for you mama (((hugs))) and lots of them, you did nothing to give your dd the pukes, hoefully you will not catch this from her

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for your input and support. I think you are all right in saying that my dd is NOT going through Zoloft withdrawal. This is a HUGE relief to me! Especially since I received my Rx yesterday and had to go back on immediately because the withdrawal symptoms for me were SO bad! I think I will try titrating off later this year. No more quitting cold turkey, though!

And, YES I guess dd DID get the awful stomach bug that's going around. I'm sure of it since I spent Sunday night hugging the toilet myself. Poor kiddo (and poor me too!) We are starting to feel better now.

Thanks again. It really means a lot ot me that you posted your replies. I'm feeling so much better about Zoloft and bfing now!

sorry you got sick, but glad it got sorted out. when you get ready to taper off the zoloft post on the health forum here, there are some things you can do naturally with supplements to help your body adjust
