Red Balls with a mostly Diaper Free Boy?!!

My LO is 14 mo. and spends most of his days diaper free. However, for over a week now the area surrounding his genitalia is consistently red. I have been CDing since the beginning and have a very good wash routine and use only environmentally sound detergents. I am very opposed to chemicals and synthetics in general. SO... his nighttime dipe is a thick fitted one, cotton, bamboo or organic cotton and a wool cover. Could the urine exposure from the night really leave his balls red all day for over a week?!! We use herbal salve on occasion as a barrier method, but I am wondering if this could be a food sensitivity as well. Any ideas? THANK!

My son had this a touch when we went diaper free days... could it be he is playing with it or hitting/sitting in them more? My soon is pretty rough with his stuff

My DD gets redness sometimes and is basically never in diapers. I use natural laundry (soapnuts) but she is naked so much anyway It blows my mind, too. She is mostly dry all night. Only a couple times a week she wets at night, but I change her soon. I've wondered about food allergies too. She is still not getting many solids (10mo) so it would have to be from my diet and I already don't do dairy.
