First time UP/UC

Hello there. I'm 16 weeks pregnant with my first, and my partner and I are seriously considering UP/UC. We have medicaid (Missouri) and have visited a birthing center it covers, but wanted to go with home birth instead. We also interviewed a home birth midwife who actually encourages UP/UC with couples who are comfortable. We had been thinking about it before we met her, but she really boosted our confidence. We're still working out what our decision will be, but it looks like as of right now we're leaning pretty strongly towards UP/UC.

The one thing that is holding us back is prenatal care towards the end of he pregnancy. We're concerned about knowing things like the position of the baby as the birth gets nearer (I have a lot of breech babies on my side of the family and no one, not one single woman, in my immediate family has ever birthed without a cesarean), how to know if I'm measuring large (we have twins on both sides of our families) - stuff like that. We have some great books, but I'm wondering what other people have done during their UP.

Any tips would be great. Thanks so much!

hello!

spinningbabies.com has information about good positioning plus belly mapping.

learn about how to birth breech, because for many UCers, it's simply a variation of normal.

otherwise, just follow your comfort zones.

That midwife who encourages UC might be willing to do a prenatal visit with you late in pregnancy to check on position. She should be able to tell if there are one or two in there too.

Thank you so much! Spinning Babies looks great.

As far as the midwife, there's a chance that we may not be living where we are (Kansas City) during the birth, so that may or may not be an option. I got the feeling from her that she only really did "package" deals - all or nothing. But I could be wrong about that.

Thanks again!
