Did you use the same midwife for all your pregnancies..

If you continued to live in the same state?

Yes.

I tried to but my MW was pregnant herself at the time and couldn't take me. I used her friends instead and they were great too. I did have a nice fantasy though of all my babies births being attended by the same MW.

I won't. I'm not pg again yet, but I don't plan on using the same midwife the next time. I was less than thrilled w/my experience and it was entirely personality based. So, I'll choose someone else next time.

I used the same midwife for all three of my pregnancies. The first she caught the baby (with my help), the second I wound up stillbirthing w/o her in the hospital, and the third was born accidentally unassisted. Our mw showed up 45 minutes after the birth. I still chose her for all three pgs, however, fully expected her to be there, we just had surprises. Also, I'd choose her again (but we're done having babies)!

I used the same midwife team for my first two births. I wasn't aware that there were really any other midwives in the area. Before I became pregnant again, I learned more and interveiwed some and made a different choice. My first two births were great, but my new midwife and I are more compatible.

I've used different midwifery practices, but here it's based on where you live as to who is available to you. We've moved twice since starting our family and that's why our midwifery practices keep changing. The same midwives caught #2 and #3 though.

Yes, but I didn't really want to. I had a tear that didn't heal correctly last time so I wanted a MW who would stitch. I was unable to find one that would take me b/c I'm a VBAC (and licensed MWs can't attend VBACs in my state). So I'm back with my old MW (who is unlicensed), which is fine. I like her and all.

Yes. My midwife was the first person we informed of my second preganancy at 11dpo. I adore her and she will always be my first choice.

for my first two I wanted to use the same doctor... I started out using the same doctor... until she found out that she was pregnant and due at the same exact time as me.

My first 4 homebirths we used our family dr. He stopped attenidng homebirths a month or so after my 4th. For my 5th and this pg, I've used the same midwife who I'm very happy with. I tried going with a CNM for insurance reasons at the beginning of this pg, but I just was miserable so I went back with my previous midwife.

Nope, different one for all 3. DD1 was born with a CNM in the hospital, DD2 with a CNM at home. That MW wasn't doing HBs anymore when I was pg with #3 so we went with another MW.

Thanks ladies I was just curious because i probably would have used the same midwife if it weren't for the circumstances being different(this time I have twins).

I think my old midwife's feeling were hurt, which I feel bad about but I think sometimes a different situation requires a different midwife.

I've known women who've done both. If you're not happy with your first experience or just have different needs this time, then make the switch.

Personally, my first was a hospital birth, and second through fourth are all with the same midwife. We her! It happens that she is very, very experienced, too, so I'd absolutely stick with her if we had circumstances such as breech or twins.

My old midwife has tons of experience and we love her but with the twins I felt safer going with a midwife who had an extensive medical background prior to being a cpm.

nope. My first was in the hospital witha doctor, and she was amazing. Really awesome. If I could have used her again, I may not have considered home birth. My second doc was awful. My third birth was at home, and while the experience was great, there were enough things that bothered me about the care I received that I chose a different MW for this baby.

No. My 1st MW stopped practicing after I had DD1, which was very sad as I loved her so much! But I have kept the same MW for the next 3 babies... it would be awkward to switch (esp. because I live in a small town and there's only one other MW in the area) but I wouldn't hesitate to change if I wasn't happy with her care!

No. I had registered midwives with my first, UC with my second, and our 3rd will be UC or attended by a private birth attendant.

I had the same mw for #2 and #3, but I switched for this babe. I love my "old" mw, but my new mw is also a friend who lives closer to me (I have quick births). Mw 2 was not in this area when I had #2 (she moved here when #2 was a few months old). And when I was pg with #3, she was pg with her son. But this time around, it was just a better fit for my life/schedule. We have been able to meet up for prenatals at her house or mine while our kids play (old mw has an office for prenatals that's on the other side of town), so it has just worked out easier logistically. My old mw understood my reasoning, and there's no hard feelings.
