Did you use the same midwife for all your pregnancies.. - Page 2

I used the same midwife for my two home births, but I kind of wish I didn't. I had doubts about her fairly early in the first home birth pregnancy (my third birth overall). It was nothing related to her ability or quality of care, just personality differences. She was also fairly unreliable in terms of appts. If she needed to reschedule b/c of something birth related, that was fine but most the reschedules weren't for those reasons. I think I had three appts with her that were not rescheduled for one reason or another.

With my second home birth, I really questioned whether to go with her or not. I talked to two other midwives, but ultimately chose to go with the same one I had before. I am still not sure why b/c there were issues along the way. However, I am glad that I did go with her b/c I had a quick labor and her apprentice lives about 10 minutes from me. Also, the midwife I had wasn't able to be at my birth and even the backup midwife didn't make it in time. I have complete faith in the apprentice and she did fine.

I have used the same midwife for my three homebirths and will use her for any future ones. She is a gem! My husband adores her too, which is a major bonus.

Yup. But I think I found the perfect midwife (for me) right from the start. I am currently in a very rocky situation and nearly moved a state away but staying here to keep care with my midwife was in my top two reasons in my decision to stay. Of course, if I had a midwife who I didn't feel I clicked with, or later found one that I clicked with better, I would have no problem using a different one. I'm just really glad that I found one that I click so well with, especially since it does make things easier to have the same midwife since she knows me better with this pregnancy than the last two and she's already attended one birth with me (second was a 1st trimester loss) so she has a lot of knowledge on me as a person and birthing woman.

For my first I went to a practice with a few CNMs and an OB. They were attached to the free standing birth center I wanted to use. I ended up with a hospital birth by an OB who I think was only visiting from Germany.

For my second and this baby, I have the same midwife.

Yep, same MW for both babes. We just LOVE her!!!! She was especially good with #2 who was a huge baby and wasn't in the best position. If we had been at the hospital he would have been vacuumed out or a c-section but she was able to work through it and he had a gentle birth. dh and I just love the way she stays calm and confident even when things get intense.

She is known for being the best MW in our area. I would definitely use her again if we had another. She has seen it all so she is very experienced and she puts her all of her heart and soul into every birth she attends.

No. But my last birth was a surrogacy before my son's birth, it was a whole lot of complicated. . . i had to move on to a midwife who didn't have that experience with me.

Yes. Had a hospital birth for first baby. Sought HB midwives for 2nd pregnancy. Miscarried that one. Went back to same HB midwives for 3rd pregnancy. Had baby at home. Would go back to them in a heartbeat.

Nope. I liked the midwife from my first pregnancy, but she was not what I needed for my birth. For my 2nd I originally chose a different midwife, but then ended up UC'ing with a friend(who happened to be a midwife) in attendance.
