Please mama, help me figure out what's going on with DS.

Hello everyone. I posted a question a few weeks ago about my 2 year old son, asking if his symptoms could be a cat allergy, and since then, we gave the kitten to my Dad (has been gone over a week now) and DS has gotten a bit worse.

Sorry this is so long, but here is the timeline of DS's illness:

1) August 7th I was sick with a cold, and we got a kitten. (Thought I would mention that I was sick, because I still don't know if what he is suffering is allergy related or viral)

2) A week later, DS started coughing (dry croupy sounding cough) and his nose started running. We took DS to his pedi on Aug. 14th, who said it looked more like a virus than an allergy.

3) DS's cough went from dry to wet, then back to dry, then wet, dry again and currently it is wet. Over the past 5 weeks, he has had 2 days of a fever, a roseola rash that followed, a sinus infection that cleared up...but nose is still running (clear now...not yellow), he has one day where he had 2 diaper fulls of diarreah, and then yesterday his eyes got really puffy, his left eye was red on the upper lid and below the eye.

We thought he might be having a reaction to the cat, so over a week ago, we gave the cat to my Dad for awhile, but DS seemed to get worse a few days later.

We vacuumed the whole house, aired it out, washed everything. His pedi recommended we give him Claritin on a daily basis...which I don't want to do, but I gave in, gave him 3 doses, and on the morning of the 4th day, he woke up worse than ever. I stopped the Claritin, as he was VERY moody, and I am not comfortable giving this to him on a daily basis especially if we don't know for sure what is going on.

Yesterday, we were outside all day, and his eye swells up. He is still coughing. Could it be the cat? Could it be ragweed or some other environmental allergy?

Ds is prone to exzema FYI.

I know this post has been a bit scattered...sorry, I am totally stressing right now because my baby has been coughing (wet and dry) now for almost 6 weeks, I don't know what is the real culprit, and I don't know what we should do about the kitten.

Any advice on what I should do? I have been giving him 500 MG of Sodium Ascorbate 4 times a day now for 2 days, I picked up some KingBio homeopathic sprays for coughing and hay fever, we do CLO, probiotics, saline nasal spray.....

What should my next step be? Please help.....

sorry I know I am replying to my own post, but I recently talked to a friend who said her toddler had a rough time with his 2 year molars.....could this possibly be the culprit?

I felt his gums and didn't feel anything, but she said they could be breaking through the jaw and causing pain and inflammation, putting pressure on the sinuses, and causing congestion. Just a thought....am anxious to hear what others think..

It seems like a longer/stronger reaction to molars than my kids had, but everyone is different. And unfortunately you may have had a virus and roseola mixed in there as well. For cats, it takes a couple months to get it out of the house if that is indeed what he is reacting to (and for what it's worth, my kids have done better on Zyrtec than Claritin). My doctor said that allergies are pretty bad right now. Not sure what part of the country you're in so I don't know what's out right now. My doctor could look up the nose and tell whether it was cold (pinkish) or allergy (bluish). But if it is allergy, you still have to figure out what it is. I would keep the cat at your father's until you know for sure what the culprit is, so that you don't confuse the issue, unfortunately.
