In great need of a Breastfeeding support group with lactation consultant or exp leader near Falls...

A friend of mine just had her first baby 4 weeks ago and has had major problems with latching on. Had lactation consultant support in hospital and has since paid a lot for a home visit from an IBCLC. Baby still won't latch on. She has a nipple shield. At this point they are almost exclusively pumping and bottlefeeding. She is feeling very demoralized and ready to give up soon but still wants to breastfeed.

Does anyone know of a free support group with a lactation consultant attending or a LLL type group that has a leader who can give hands on help, in the Falls Church area? (Or an IBCLC who doesn't charge, if such a person exists??)

Any suggestions are much appreciated!!

Was her birth traumatic at all? LCs are great to a point, but it could be that the baby can't open his mouth and suck correctly from trauma to bones, muscles, nerves, or other tissues during the birthing process.

A great osteopath in Silver Spring is Harold Goodman who does a lot of work on babies with such issues (he saw my son for torticollis). The therapy is incredibly gentle and usually takes a very minimal # of sessions to correct the problem. He isn't cheap, but a year's worth of even regular formula is even more expensive! Not to mention a much higher incidence of sickness/hospitalization for ff babies.
