let's talk 3 month old poop

Ahh poop, fun stuff!

13 week old EBF dd has had weird poops for almost a week now- they seem like they could be within the scope of "normal" though. Thoughts before I decide if we need to see a doc?

She seems healthy and happy and appears to be going through a growth spurt. Getting pretty plump and eating like a piglet lately!

The last few weeks her poops have become less frequent- most days it's now once or twice but none on the odd day there's none. (I know this is normal so far). She became much more farty and is still this way! (again, normal probably) When this started, sometimes the poop would appear to have a chunk or two in it- a slimy looking chunk that perhaps looks like the scum on pudding. I assumed this was normal- it didn't look out of place other than at first being new. Now a week ago she had a couple of streaks of blood and has since then a couple of times. I haven't changed my diet and I don't think she could have developed an allergy? But I've read this could also be straining, and she seems to be passing more and more chunky bits. Pooping doesn't seem to bother her, only sometimes the farts do before they come out!

Besides just the chunks, overall the poops tend to be thicker, like pudding slime (not peanut butter though) and they are a lot more separated-like there is slime and there is water not mixed in- it doesn't all soak into the diaper usually.

Also, sometimes there is now an odour to her poops and farts- mostly just the odour of condensed ebf poop, sometimes a bit fartier, if you know what I mean!

So while to me this mostly seems like it COULD be normal poop progression, maybe it's not?

She has also become very slobbery in a similar timeline to the slimy poop, so I assumed they are related.

ooo another thought- could there be any connection to the dog hairs she eats and thus poops out since she's been putting everything in her drooly mouth?

It all sounds totally normal to me..

from what I hear - slimier poop could be connected to the drooling, the drool going down can affect the poop consistency.
And the streaks of blood - DS had that once when I wasn't feeling well, so it was a sign of a virus. If it went away and she is otherwise happy and doing fine I wouldn't worry.
Hope this helps.

thanks both of you! I feel pretty okay that it's all normal but worry none the less... I don't want to ruin my firstborn!

Sounds pretty normal to me too. The only thing that would catch my attention would be the streaks of blood, but if you don't see those anymore I wouldn't worry about it.

Trust me, as the time goes on, the poop gets stranger.
