David at C&HIV posted about this recently published article which discusses the disconnect between MGM and FGM.

The article is worth reading, I strongly recommend it.

Thanks for posting this. This must be one of the best articles that I have read to date on MGM/FGM. It always amazes me how works of high caliber get so little attention while mindless stories make all the headlines.

The link doesn't work for me. Got another way to get to the article? I'd really like to read it.

Ann did you try both links? The first goes to a blog post about the article and has a link to it at the bottom. The second is a direct link to the article. Be sure that you have Adobe Reader installed it is required. If you continue to have difficulty PM me and I can email it to you.

The second link gets me nothing.

I did finally find the download at the bottom of the first link.

Thank you for posting this. Although I'm not used to reading at that level (or maybe I shouldn't have been attempting to read anything past high school level while awake with insomnia), I thought it was interesting and revealing.

I need to go back, read it again when fully awake, and try to take home some key points. I may need to print it and use a highlighter.

It seemed very thoughtfully written and well researched. Was this his dissertation?

That is strange. I've clicked it on both my laptop and PDA and have no trouble. Try and go to the blog (first link) then scroll to the bottom. It's there too if you can't make it work I'll email you a copy.

And if anyone can give me more detail on the problem with he second link that would be helpful.

Both links worked for me. You have to have adobe installed for the second as it takes you directly to the .pdf.

Both links work for me. I'm using Firefox but it worked for me in IE too.

Sounds like a cultural anthropologist - took me back to college days! Far above the average person's head, especially if you tried to use it in an online debate where someone is claiming that "FGM is so much worse." I like it, though.

I think the issue Pumpkin is that some may not have the most current version (if any) of adobe acrobat. I am a bit surprised though that it doesn't go out and seek acrobat if it isn't installed. In any case those who want to look into installing it can go here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/ Pick the correct version and install it. I can't offer advice on this so if you're unsure ask someone local who can help you.

I think though the arguments can be distiled down for use in a debate. It will just take some time to do that, I'll be reading it at least a few times myself just to get a good feel for the arguments. Which are really many of the same we've been using but the author has referenced them really well and presented them in a very compelling manner.
