My daughter is 5 and has SPD. It waxes and wanes in severity. sometimes it's hard to even leave the house b/c she can't stand wearing shoes, socks... or clothing in general. other times most people never notice a difference and are surprised when they realize she has it. Over all though a lot of our lives revolves around it as it just sorta strikes out of no where sometimes and it can be severe for MONTHS at a time... or sometimes just hours. It's never gone though of course.
anyhow the older she gets the more I notice tics. things like repetitive throat clearing, funny breathing and saying things over and over "that is so so so so so so so so so so so so so ..... funny". I think she just makes up the sentences as a way to say the "so so so" part if that makes sense. she rarely even remembers what it was she was talking about anyhow. she gets so focused on the "so so so" part. (or whatever word it is she is stuck on)
is this normal symptom of SPD? any one else's SPD child do this? and how should I verbally/emotionally handle the tics? as in do I bring them to her attention or totally ignore them? I don't want to make her more anxious about it. It makes me anxious just hearing her do it.
any thoughts? Is this normal for SPD? and how do I help her to keep her anxiety low? She is going through a rough patch right now...
