EC diaper recommendations

Hi I am a diehard ECer. I have a 7 yo grad (started at 2 wks old, diaperless at 4 mo) that was independent except for poo wiping at 2 y 2 m old. I began using the potty with dd2 a few days after birth. I did use paper diapers for a longer time with dd2, but offered potty often (I was tired). She has just never caught on. Only one time did she go consistently in the potty for 2 or 3 days with only a few misses. She would even stand and poop whenever, until a few months ago. She is now at least pooping in a potty consistently.

The difference is unbelievable to me and I now understand what all those people were talking about on the EC board. dd1 never pooped anywhere but a potty, and dd2 doesn't even seem to register that pee belongs in a potty. I believe in EC but TBH I am tired of cleaning up all the puddles and having my bed and me get wet at night. And her bladder is so much larger now, when she decides to pee while facing the wall on the bed, it soaks the bed, the wall, the floor... I have to move the whole mattress....

Anyway, I am frustrated by this. We have tried many things like singing when she does use the potty, a little song we made up... I have tried having her help clean it, putting her on potty just after and explaining, not having any reaction and quietly cleaning it up.... so now I want to find a cloth diaper I can put on her for a break, or to leave the house in (the last two times I have taken her to mother's group or church, she has peed her pants and it went on the floor a bit )

I want natural fiber only, no plastic (unless it be the snaps or fasteners), no GMO cotton... I just have never done diapers so I am at a loss really. We bought some seventh Generation the other day to go to the fair but I don't want to keep having paper ones.... I don't care if they absorb all the pee, as long as a puddle doesn't form on the floor, and poop is not a factor any more. I would like to buy used ones from another EC child, that have not been pooped in. Anyone have any suggestions? I see the ones on Hyena Cart cost $20 each... It is really hard to justify this so late in the game (she is 20 mo) to the person that has the $ here (not me). so if I could find a pack of 3 (used?) diapers for $20, I could convince my parenting partner to do that.... I looked at Gdiapers, but again too hard to justify this late in the game....

I am disappointed that dd2 does not seem to understand EC, after the success with dd1.

each child is different, but I understand your disappointment.

do you have her on a schedule or rhythm for going to the toilet? i find that this helps when we are going through a "potty change" (which is to say, when he grows a bit and decides that signaling is so passee! he usually steps back into it again after a couple of weeks of doing a rather strict routine of going every 2 hrs.

otherwise, you could probably just put a prefold or make a small luna pad for her undies? something like that might work.

we used cloth pull ups from www.sassycloth.com. She custom makes them so you can tell her what materials you want/don't want in them. They are around $8 each.

I usually take her when I intuitively feel she has to go which works a lot of the time, the intuition is there with this one just like with dd1, and I take her whenever I go also. This is not a 'potty change' I remember those with dd1, the refusals around developmental changes... dd2 has just never understood what we are doing. Granted, dd1 appears to be gifted, but I thought dd2 would be also... and signals with dd2 are nonexistent. She has come to us a few times in the last 3 days and said, 'pee' BEFORE she peed, so we could take her to potty, so that's huge. Other than that, recently I noticed she has a particular studious stance she takes on just before peeing, so when I saw that I would put potty under her... dd2 has just been so different. She will stand in front of you and pee on your feet, she seems surprised when the pee comes out sometimes, other times when she is squatting she watches it like she meant to do that, as if she understands the pee is coming out of her due to her effort... she will also pee on us while we hold her, which is not typical of an child that has used EC. They will usually struggle to get off to pee. I am thinking it was partly due to keeping her in diapers when she was small because I didn't want to deal with catching every pee. The first time I went diaperless (24/ 7 I mean, she had lots of nakey time since birth) with her, she was 8 mo. It only lasted a week or so before I put her back in diapers (again with lots of nakey time) until 12 mo... when I declared diaper free.

Anyway, thanks for listening. You reminded me what i used to do when she was small with the prefold in her underwear. she has outgrown those panties, but we bought some organic cotton training pants recently. I wanted to make sure they would fit for awhile due to the expense and got size 2-3. They are too big, so it is perfect to put a prefold in. She cries about having any clothes on, but I need to put them on her for our sanity for now anyway.

WOW! That is incredible! I have never seen diapers so inexpensive. I want some! But I will have to make do with the trainers and prefolds I already own the person with the $ says. But I will pass on her info to anyone that asks, that is the only reasonable price I have seen for diapers. She must buy in huge quantities or make nothing on a sale. I had a really hard time navigating the site... If you know her, you should suggest a better website design, I think it would help sales tremendously.
