transitioning to Baby Björn potty = fewer catches??

My DS is almost 4 months and we've been ECing since birth, but not entirely seriously. That means I offer him the potty at every diaper change and make the cueing sounds, and I catch what I catch but I'm not really trying for more. DS poops a lot and it's obvious when he does, and when he makes one there's usually a "part 2" close behind which I then catch. And sometimes when he's on the potty he pees or poos unexpectedly, but other than that I am not really pushing for more. I would guess I was catching an average of 2 poops and 3 pees a day.

Up until recently I had a plastic bowl and was holding him in the newborn hold over that, but last week I got a Baby Björn Little Potty for him. He can't sit on his own yet, but almost, and I figured it would be easier to have a potty since I can't hold him over that bowl forever. Well, since we've been using the BBLP, I've been catching less than half as much. First of all the potty's COLD. He doesn't seem to react to that, but still....is there a way I can warm it quickly before we use it? Maybe running warm water over it? Also it's nearly too small and his penis hits the front of it unless I position him way back on it. Up to what age are those potties meant for, and what do you get for the next size up?

Anyway, is this normal when transitioning to a new potty? What can I do to start catching more? I've tried holding him in the same position as before above the potty, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I also wait longer now and play with him a little while he's sitting. TIA for your ideas and experience!

a fleece potty cozy is great to keep the potty from being too cold or too hot on their bums. My dd would not use it w/out one for the longest time. I would suggest holding him over the bblp but it looks like you do that already. Maybe use a combo of bowl, grownup toilet, bblp, etc. Some days my dd just prefered one way over the other and I would just keep offering differnt options until she went.

I would think that could get messy, but I'm willing to try. Where can I find one? Thanks

So the update is, I am now not catching anything. Maybe one poo a week. He honestly doesn't seem to mind the cold ~he's very outspoken and when he doesn't like something oh boy does he let us know! Anyway I've started holding him over the plain bowl again and voila I caught a poo! So now my question is: how long can you use the newborn hold? He's getting heavy, he already weighs 15+ lbs and growing! For now this works, but I think the bigger he gets the harder it'll be.
