early signs of thrush?

i suspect that babe and i have thrush. i used to work in child care, and i know the tell tale obvious signs of thrush in a baby. but im not familiar with it when it comes to breastfeeding.

when i letdown, i have this sharp, super intense burning pain that lingers but eventually goes away before the feeding is done. my breasts or nipples dont hurt, otherwise.

my ds2 tongue has a white patch that i thought was just him spitting up and the spit up was just hanging around. but now im not so sure... he is also latching on and off frequently for no apparent reason (possibly his mouth/throat hurt?) and he doesnt have the "cottage cheese" patches anywhere. and he sometimes clicks his tongue, but he has a great latch and is not tongue tied.

ive read online that these can be two of many signs of thrush

these are the only two signs, but im wondering if they are early signs and if it could get worse?

experiences/thoughts?

and who do i see to diagnose thrush? his pedi? my dr? an ob/gyn? i would want to treat it homeopathically, but still might want to see a dr about it

thanks

I'm praying for you this it's not thrush but I would definitely call an LC to check. We had thrush several times and the clicking and coming off repeatedly were early indicators that I learned to recognize. However, the pain in my breast was present the entire nursing. (I used to have to sing 99 bottles of beer on the wall to keep myself from crying ;0)
I'd recommend an LC over ped or ob, especially if you aren't looking to go straight to meds.
That's my experience. Best of luck!
