With cold/flu season coming, let's talk about how to boost our baby's immune systems

Other than breastfeeding (if possible) and making sure they're getting good sleep, what can be done to boost baby's immune system.

This is an interesting post I found on this random blog. I'm wondering if it really is okay to give my 7 month old tumeric and garlic.

Do you have any good links?

What about things like probiotics and other supplements to give directly to baby? What about things breastfeeding moms can do or take that will transfer to their breastmilk?

I think nasal cleaning with a saline spray and something like this would be good. I use a neti pot for myself periodic throughout the winter just for good measure.

Also, I think some kind of D3 drops are a good idea.

What about garlic, elderberry syrup, tumeric, foods that are high in vitamin C.......can any of those be given to a baby?

Looking forward to seeing what you all have to say!

Hiya! I just posted this in another thread too, but I give my 5 month old a bottle of goat's milk (about 7 oz or so) 5 mornings a week while I'm at work. I pump about the same amount while I'm there but he always chugs it down after we nurse. I just don;t feel comfortable giving him formula so that's what we do. To make sure he's getting everything he needs we give him Floradix Children's vitamins and FloraBaby Probiotic Powder (we bought ours at Whole Foods)...Otherwise ds nurses constantly all day and night while we're home together. It'd probably be good to throw some other stuffin there like flax oil or something but its only 1 bottle a day and he seems to be doing just fine with what we're doing!

Honestly though if I was exclusively then I probably wouldn't give him anything extra....the immunity they get from breastmilk is so superior to anything else...

We do vit. d drops, and I take probiotics, so the babies get what passes into my breastmilk. Also, on occasion when they get a bottle, dh mixes baby probiotics in. Thats about all we do, and I observed a recent runny nose/apparent cold in Hannah ran its course in about three days, so apparently it is working.
