baby vitamins?

My ds had his 6 month doc check up today.
The doctor said that starting at 6 months he recommends that the baby needs more iron, and so said I should give him a baby multivitamin with iron.

I have never heard of giving a little baby vitamins. I don't think I really want to- he exists mostly on breastmilk right now, with just a little bit of solids beginning. I think vitamins would tax his little baby body.

Do you give your baby vitamins?

We do give ds Floradix for children and FloraBaby probiotic powder but only bc we supplement with 1 bottle of goats milk 5 days a ! hungry boy!). Other than that its all breastmilk. If I was exclusively bf-ing I personally wouldn't give him anything though, he'd get all the iron he needs from my milk.

My doctor recommended adding blackstrap molasses to his food a couple of times a week for added iron, but doesn't recommend a vitamin. She generally doesn't like "vitamins" but prefers to add whole food sources. I haven't given him any yet, but probably will in the next couple of weeks. I never gave dd an vitamin or added any particular foods for iron beyond what we normally ate and she did just fine (I did start giving her a multivitamin when she was closer to 2 years old, mostly because her big sis got them and she liked the taste, lol) Oh, and both dd and ds were/are exclusively breastfed.

correct me if i'm wrong but i think it's b/c a babes iron stores deplete by 6 months or so and aren't transfered in BM (or not enough???)
my ped who prescribed the vitamin d drops never even brought it up. i just made sure she was getting it in solids and if i was concerned i would add some earth's best oatmeal to her yogurt or applesauce...something liquidy. i had also intended to do the blackstrap molasses but i forgot the grocery bag at the store and was too lazy to go back.
that said they tested her iron levels when they do the lead test and it always comes back fine.

We give our baby vitamin D, one drop a day...well, most days. Sometimes I forget. Our pediatrician is a homeopath and I trust her. She's not into vaccinating and using other drugs unnecessarily. Plus, around here there will be weeks at a time with no sunshine, especially in winter, so I can see how vitamin D makes sense.

Other than that he's EBF and I believe he's getting all his nutrients that way.

yes, baby's iron stores deplete by 6 months.

Why/how would vitamins tax his body?
