My first child was a huge nurser, born 8lbs 1oz, was 10-6 at 1 month and 12-8 at 2 months. She would always nurse and even though she had some vomiting, she still gained huge amounts of weight.
Now we have baby #2 who was also born 8lbs 1oz, but here she is at 7 weeks and she's about 9lbs 10oz. We have a baby scale at home and she was 9-8 a week ago. Now when she does get in a good feeding, she gets plenty (yesterday she was 9-7.5 before a feeding and 9-10 after), but she just doesn't seem to WANT to nurse. I'm offering all the time, but quite frequently, she'll start screaming at me for offering. Or if she was already crying, she'll refuse to latch on. When she does latch on, she will often nurse for a few seconds, pull off, re-latch, pull off, back and forth.
She has vomited a few times, but maybe 5 times in the past 2 weeks, so it's not terribly frequent. Overall, though, she's a pretty happy baby. She sleeps at night no problem, smiles, and isn't constantly colicky. She gets gassy and complains about that at times. I do have a strong let-down, but I've been block nursing to help with that and I don't feel like I have an oversupply. She only gets pacifiers very rarely when nursing isn't an option like when we're in the car and she has maybe had a bottle once or twice, so I doubt it is nipple confusion.
So... Any thoughts on what else I can try? For the record, my mom says I was off the charts tiny as a kid, but when I compare Amaryn to her big sister at this age, the difference is crazy.
