So with DD1 I had horrible milk supply from day one. Even after all the teas, fenugreek, strong beer, etc. nothing ever seemed to help and my supply never got great. There was never enough left to do any pumping to save/freeze. Despite it all, we still managed to nurse until she was 15 months and weaned herself. There seems to be A LOT of good things about Alfalfa and increased milk supply if taken BEFORE baby comes. It's got other good qualities to it as well. I guess it makes sense when you think about how nursing cows and goats need access to a lot of high-quality alfalfa hay. I grew up on a farm. It's also in the same family as Fenugreek and Red Clover...all are a legume with estrogenic components. So I've started to take 850mg of Alfalfa leaf a day once I hit the third trimester. I've got slightly increased breast tenderness which I'm taking as a good thing! Something is going on in there. Here is the thing...I don't know if I should be taking more or not. My midwife has scoured her books and all of them say "yes, it's great!" but none of them give an actual dosage! So is anyone else taking this while waiting for baby to come? If you are, what is the dosage you've been recommended? Thanks ladies!!
