Breastfeeding and Iron/Vitamin Supplement?

Thread Starter
I am BF DD who is 7 mos. I introduced both rice and oatmeal iron-fortified cereal to her around 6 mos of age, but found them to be too "binding" for her, so now we are sticking with fruits and veggies for her solids (twice a day, following time at breast). I am considering (and Pediatrician recommended to) adding an iron/vitamin supplement in her diet and would like to know what others have done. Can't say I am too fond of Enfamil's Ply Vi Sol ingredient list, and am hoping to find something more natural. Thoughts? Ideas?

Perhaps it's not needed?

Meats are now recommended as first soilds for babes. I don't know if you are a vegetarian or not, but try high iron foods. Spinach comes to mind.

Unless baby has tested low for iron, I personally would avoid supplements and go with iron rich foods. See why here: http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/vi...on.html#whynot

Some good iron rich foods:

Spinach is not a good source of iron because it is high in oxalic acid, which blocks absorption. Good veggie sources include kale, collard greens, and broccoli. Vitamin C aids absorption.
