Baby sleeping too much?

Okay, please don't hate me, but I feel like my babe is sleeping TOO much! She's EBF, and takes a bottle of expressed milk occasionally when I go to the gym. But for the last 1-2 months, my 3 month old goes down about 9:30pm and sleeps until about 4-5am, nurses, then sleeps again for about 3 hours and then is only really awake for 4-5 hours during a 24 hour period. My pediatrician said she should be sleeping about 16 hours and awake about 8, and I know that's an average, but she's ALWAYS asleep it seems. She's alert and giggly and seems to be progressing socially. She has about 8 diapers/day, with 1-2 poopies.

Does anyone else's babe sleep as much? Am I worrying for nothing or should I still wake her up to eat? Ped says no because she's gaining healthily, but my boobs scream YES!!! She was born 8#8oz and now, at 5 days before her 3 month birthday, she's 13#11oz.

Thanks for the advice mamas!

Babies sleep a lot. IMO, most babies don't sleep enough. Mine have all slept nearly constantly until about 4 months when they seemed to wake up a little bit. My 23 month old sleeps almost 16 hours a day,

I agree with PP that most babies don't sleep enough. My 10 week old DD seems to be able to be awake happily for at most 45 minutes, then she's ready for another big nap. If she's happy and alert when she is awake, you're doing the right thing.

Thanks for that advice! I figured she was okay, but thought I'd check with the experts here at MDC. With my first I had such a traumatic post-birth for the first year of her life (medical problems from a botched c-section) that I don't remember how much my first slept, and my husband was useless when I asked if he remembered. ("Yah, she slept a lot I think. I don't know.") Anyhoo! That's what I needed to know. Thanks again!

mine (EBF, never had a bottle or a paci) sleeps 8 hours minimum overnight. i was worried when she began to do so at 7 weeks, but she's now 15weeks and growing/developing fine so i guess she's fine

DD#2 was the same way. She is closer to 4 months and she is having much more awake time now. She also just started waking up in the middle of the night after sleeping 9-10 hour stretches since 2 months. She now sometimes catnaps through the day, but will often, like today, take 3-4 hour naps.

After DD#1 who barely slept, I never thought I would think a baby could sleep too much!
