What age do babies start a daily routine?

My little guy is 1 month old and I'm just wondering when I might see a daily routine/pattern of sleeping, playing, eating, etc. start to emerge. What age did you see a daily pattern start with your little one? It's not that I want to schedule him, and I know that of course babies change just when you're used to them. Just wishful thinking that my 3 year old, my 1 month old and I might have some routine to our days at home in the (near?) future...

I think a general pattern can be seen early on. But, what I've seen with DS is his naps are more predictable the older he gets. For example, he wakes up at 7 then 2-3 hours later he's ready for a nap. Then a few hours after he wakes up, eats, plays, eats then it's time for another nap.

I can't for the life of me remember when my older two settled into a more predictable routine! Mommy brain? DD#2 is now two weeks and nothing is predictable but that she'll sleep much of the day and be up for several hours at some point between 11pm and 7am. I'll be watching this thread for a reminder of when things get more routine!

ilovemyavery - I know!! My daughter's only 3, I feel like I should remember but I absolutely can't. Why is that?

By about three months Cecilia was in an awake-for-two-hours routine, and now at 5.5 months she stil is!

I think it varies GREATLY! I kept waiting & waiting for ds to settle into his own little rhythm but finally had to push the issue a little more when he was 18 months.

If I remember right, it finally clicked at 3 months that DD napped 3 X a day. Took me till 6 months to notice a real pattern, although by then she was down to 2 naps a day. I think it was at the 10-month mark that I really figured out the timing for everything... although I know that will change soon enough.

My DS is only four months and already I can't remember!!!
But I think it was somewhere around 6 weeks when his naps started having a regular rhythm. And I did nothing to control that, it just happened.

Different for every child. But my ds, had a clear schedule that he needed by 1 month old. Took me til 2 months to get it. Which is a far cry from my 2 girls, they never had a schedule till they were toddlers!
