4 accidents in one day!?!

Thread Starter
ds (almost 28 months) daytime potty learned a couple of months ago, he rarely has accidents, except occasionally when waking from his nap. yesterday he had a couple and today there have been 4 so far, one of which i think was intentional. typically he will take his pants down and take himself to the potty or if we are out somewhere he will tell me he has to use the bathroom. he hasn't been wanting to go lately and when i ask him he says no. i wish i knew what was going on here, or how i could encourage him to get back on the potty. are there any issues that correlate to this i.e. teething or growth spurt?

thanks... i'm off to go clean the carpet

We had/are having this too. DS did great at first, and now that he's been daytime-learned for several months, it's not unusual for him to have a few little accidents in a day while at home. The thing is, when we're out, he NEVER has an accident, and we're out much longer than the stretches he goes at home before he wets. Apparently, it's a normal part of the process (at least for everyone I've spoken to who've BTDT). One friend of mine has a 3 year old who has been out of diapers for a long time and still refuses to go til the last minute, and sometimes has accidents. They just don't want to stop what they're doing to go.

ETA: I don't ask, I tell. "It's time to go potty." And before we leave the house, when he refuses, I go first, and then tell him it's his turn, and he usually complies even though he was protesting 30 seconds ago. Drink lots of water, and have him go when you do!

I wrote a thread last week about my dd not going ppo in the potty. But now she is also having pee accidents. I am soo confused. I really do not know what to do? Why is she regressing? I also want to know if there are things that may make her regress. She is a very independent person-always has been.

There is another thread on here--and ppl are saying that their toddlers have dont accidents on purpose as a power struggle. I don't know if that is the problem with you ds--but i do know it is not the case with dd2. Lastinight i bought some mini m&ms. (not a normal candy for our household--but they are so tiny i figured it was less sugar and artificial coloring). Anyways. She immediately wanted some--but i told her she could only get one if she went peepee or poop in the potty. SO when we got home she peed in the potty. And this morning she peed inthe potty.
When I first asked her this morning she said no--but then i reminded her that if she peed in the potty she would get a piece of candy-she of course she was ready then.
I know not everyone will agree with the method-but she has been regressing clowly adn it was very annoying cleaning it up constantly. She has done very well so far this morning. I hope it continues.

I read where someone else did the :big kid" privelege. She got to use a butter knife at dinner if she made it to the potty all day. Something similar might work for you? DD2 doesn't care about being a big girl. she is very independent-but she is more interested in being a baby.
